Young People and Smoking
Results of the HBSC survey of school pupils
The proportion of students in Switzerland smoking at least once a week increased between 1994 and 1998, levelled off at its peak in 2002 and then decreased in 2006. In 2010, the proportion remained unchanged amongst girls, but there was a slight increase in tobacco consumption for boys. Around 12 percent of the 15-year-old smokers smoked every day, with no major differences between the sexes.
The results are obtained from the international study "Health Behaviour in School-aged Children" (HBSC), carried out in Switzerland by Sucht Info Schweiz (Addiction Info Switzerland).
